Jim Dix began formal music education in 3rd grade with studies on violin and piano. In high school, he began performing professionally on trumpet and voice. 

Jim went on to study voice, trumpet and keyboard at Florida Atlantic University, and studying classical voice for 5 years with Royal Academy of Music graduate, Maria Ward-Heslop. At the same time, Jim performed with varied professional groups ranging from rock bands, vocal jazz ensembles and jazz combos, to the Florida Symphonic Pops. 

In 1992, Jim moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, focusing on vocal performance, studio singing, and songwriting. There he honed his skills as a lead vocalist both on stage and in the studio, and continued singing vocal jazz as tenor and soloist in the Berklee Advanced Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Vocal Jazz Recording Quartet.

Jim returned to his native South Florida in 1994, engaging in jazz, pop, rock, and R&B performances in festivals, nightclubs, and private events, as well as continuing songwriting in collaborative and solo recording projects.

In 2003, Jim began vocal study with internationally renowned voice teacher Mary Walkley, and has worked with her on the principles and methods of teaching voice. He is currently an associate teacher of her Miami-based Connected Voice studio. 

Also in 2003, Jim released his debut solo album, Flowers from Eden, combining elements of R&B, Funk, Rock, and Jazz in all original songs.

From 2004 to 2013, he worked extensively with Bob Gaffney Productions, performing on lead vocals, trumpet, and keyboard at festivals, weddings, corporate events, and private parties all over Florida. 

From 2013 to present Jim has worked full time with Private Stock, performing on lead and background vocals, trumpet, keyboard, guitar, and bass, in venues all over the U.S., and internationally, including as a headliner act with Royal Caribbean International cruise lines.

Jim continues to take voice lessons and studies the art of teaching voice with Mary Walkley and other top teachers from all over the world. He is also certified by the John Henny Contemporary Voice Teacher Academy. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities from Florida Atlantic University
